Community Health Leadership Development

The Community Health Leadership Development (CHLD) process is designed to ensure the survival of local health care delivery systems by assisting reisdents in taking a proactive role to position themselves for sustainability and growth during times of transition.

The process brings community residents and health care providers together to assess local health care needs and determine how best to meet them, to gain support for local health care systems, and to decide how local health care services would best be organized.

The CHLD process is based on the following premises:

  • People have the right to participate in public affairs, and health care is a public issue;
  • Informed people will make good decisions;
  • Problems and solutions are local; and
  • An involved community that has an active role in determining the health system structure and its future, will use and support that system.

    The CHLD process fosters reliable and long-term financial support for local health care services.

    If you are interesting in introducing the CHLD process to your community, call 304.766.1591 or email sharon.lansdale@wvruralhealth.org.
